The New Orleans Pelicans are a professional basketball team that originated in New Orleans. It was formed in the year 2002 and is one of the younger teams among all the other NBA teams. The team plays under the Southwest Division of the Western Conference. They had their names changed quite a few times. Initially, they were known as the New Orleans Hornets. It was established with that name because the team Charlotte Hornets had relocated to New Orleans and changed their names accordingly.

After that, they changed their name to the New Orleans City Hornets. Finally, in the year 2013, they had changed their name to the New Orleans Pelicans. The team has won several championships under the NBA league.
